Fresh & Live · A TSAC initiative

Fresh thinking.
Living plants.

Keep the roots. Bring the harvest closer. A new approach to salad plants, with growing, packaging, and delivery designed together.

Discover the idea

TSAC’s first focus for pilot development.

Product concept showing a tray of living salad plants under a clear cover.

The idea

Keep the roots. Rethink the journey.

Grow salad plants with their roots intact so they can be harvested closer to the point of use. Pilot work will test growing conditions, packaging, handling, and the user experience together.

  • Root-intact plants

    A living-plant format rather than a pre-cut salad product.

  • A complete product journey

Growing, packaging, handling, and harvest considered as one system.

  • Evidence before promises

Freshness, food safety, packaging performance, and economics to be measured through pilot work.

Proposed range

A considered starting range.

Eight starting formats, from whole lettuce plants to mixed leaves and microgreens. Varieties and packs will be refined through growing and handling trials and partner feedback; these are development concepts, not products currently offered for sale.

  • Butterhead lettuce

    Single-variety living plants.

  • Baby leaf mix

    Mixed salad leaves.

  • Spinach

    Leafy-green format.

  • Kale

    Specialty leafy-green format.

  • Red lettuce

Color and variety across lettuce types.

  • Rocket / arugula

    Peppery salad leaves.

  • Microgreens

    Small-format specialty greens.

  • Mustard mix

    Mixed mustard leaves.

Growing and packaging

Design the system around the plant.

TSAC brings crop requirements, controlled-environment production, root-supporting packaging, and the route to market into one development plan.

  • Growing approach

Define crop-specific environmental conditions and repeatable trial protocols before scaling production.

  • Packaging development

Evaluate formats that support the plant and practical handling. Material choices are assessed against plant health, handling, and verified disposal requirements.

  • Operational fit

Test the requirements of transport, storage, food safety, and use in the intended setting.

Pilot pathway

Build a pilot around a real use case.

TSAC welcomes conversations with potential growers, packaging specialists, food-service teams, and retail partners who can help define and test a focused pilot. Pilot scope and partner roles are agreed individually.

  1. Define

Agree the use case, crop selection, partner roles, and practical constraints.

  2. Test

Run a scoped growing and packaging trial with clear food-safety and quality criteria.

  3. Learn

Review measured outcomes, user feedback, operating requirements, and economics.

  4. Decide

Use the results to decide what to develop next.
